The Terminal 21 Shopping Mall in Bangkok

I’m not the kind of girl who enjoys to aimlessly walk around shopping malls to pastime, but I was still a little curious about the Terminal 21 shopping mall in Bangkok (Sukhumvit Road).  Why you might ask? Well, the mall has an airport/world theme! Okay, so I admit that I’m a sucker for anything travel themed. I didn’t buy a single thing and I think that the Brit thought that it was a pretty shit place to spend an afternoon, but I’m still a little glad to have seen it.

It even starts before you enter the shopping mall. There’s a sort-of queue leading up to a metal detector with ”airport security staff”. Oh yes, they have replicated the worst possible thing with travelling; the airport security check! Don’t worry though, the metal detectors are not real and they won’t ask you to throw away any liquids over 100ml. It’s a breeze.

The Terminal 21 shopping mall is a 9 story high complex with all kinds of shops, restaurants and cinemas. It’s pretty much like a standard shopping mall in those aspects, if it weren’t for the fact that each floor has different themes. Since the entrance and some of the ground floor have an airport theme, there’s only one way to build on that theme; The World. ”Boarding” one of the many escalators will literally transport you to another part of the world. There’s a Caribbean Beach Town, which obviously have a beach and a lighthouse. There’s a piece of Paris with its own Eiffel Tower, Tokyo (various sculptures), Rome (various artworks), San Fransisco (The Golden Gate Bridge), Hollywood, Istanbul and of course London.

They had managed to get some of the biggest London icons. The only thing that I missed was Big Ben. However, my favorite touch was of course Brick Lane! It’s one of my favorite areas in London that I was lucky to call my home (a 15 min walk is basically around the corner in London).

Location: In the intersection of Sukhumvit & Asok. The nearest BST station is Asok and nearest MRT is Sukhumvit.
