Fiji, Travels Around The World

Living on Fiji Time

Fiji Time

Fiji have been one of my dream destinations for years, but it has always felt out of reach since it’s too far away from Europe. Well, I have finally snorkeled in the crystal clear and turquoise water in Fiji and got to visit some amazing islands in the South Sea! And yes, I’m even smiling when I’m writing this, because I’m so happy to have been there. Don’t worry though, I have plenty of photos and stories to tell you as soon as I have time to go through my memory cards. Jetstar have just opened up a new route between Gold Coast and Nadi in Fiji and had a few good deals that was just too good to give up. It might still be possible to get some pretty cheap flights if you are lucky.

Anyhow, Fiji was really good, but it has completely messed up my sleeping pattern. Fiji is only 2 hours before Brisbane time wise, but I’m more jet-lagged now than when we flew Sweden-Thailand-Australia in 6 days. Every evening is a constant struggle against an overwhelming tiredness.

We visited two small islands that was absolutely breathtaking when it was light, but had absolutely nothing do after the sunset. So we did what every other sensible person did on the island and started getting up insanely early. We got up with the sun around 6 am (yeah, it’s crazy early for a vacation), had breakfast at 7 am and spent the days lazing around the beach/exploring the islands, eat dinner and then go to bed around 9-10 pm. I even got up at 5.30 am at one point and watched the sunset, simply because that’s when my body thought it was time to get up. It’s crazy.

It was a good habit in Fiji, but It has completely messed me up now. 6 am in Fiji, is 4 am here in Brisbane.. I have been waking up and being so awake that I could easily just bounce out of bed and start my day around.. 5 am. Which is not too bad, if it weren’t for the fact that I’m about to completely collapse of tiredness around.. Well, 8pm.. Ugh, I feel like a kid, except that I actually really long to go the bed at that time. I’m already starting to feel tired and it’s not even 5 pm yet..

Have you ever experienced any unexpected jet-lags?
