Pattaya in Thailand is one of those kind of places that seems to mainly revolving around sex, booze and pleasing whatever desires the visiting men have. It’s about money, bars and 70-year old men walking home with 20-year Thai girls. It’s a city of pleasures, exploitation and the power of money. The streets are full of shops, bars and attractions that are all made to entertain the tourists. I can’t help to think that it all feels a little plastic and fake.
Wherever I look, I can see white men in all ages enjoying themselves, but there’s no other travelling girls around the area. There’s not many mixed groups of travelers either. The bars and shops are full of men. There’s not much here for the regular traveler. Only shopping, neon lights and money changing hands in a dark street corner.
This is not what I had in mind when I booked our Thailand holiday. It’s obviously fully possible to do other things than to buy attention from the Thai girls, but there’s not much. There’s a beach (which is why we, two sun-deprived Europeans) decided to start our holiday in Pattaya. The water looked a little too dirty for a swim, but we’re still enjoying ourselves in the sun. I mean, just being on a beach is a pretty big thing for us!
We’ve been drinking drinks under a parasol just meters away from the sea. We’re still too jet lagged to have the energy to do anything major, so it might be a good thing to take it slower. Life is about recovery and sleep at the moment. We have walked around, watching the older girls flirting with the Thai girls and accidentally visited a strip club while trying to get away from the rain. Just a typical easy-going life.
